The Five Stages of a Successful First Encounter

The Five stages of a successful first encounter:

Use open body language. Uncover your heart by leaving your jacket or coat unbuttoned and facing the other person.

Remember the affects of this will be taking place on a subconscious level so doing this will have a positive impact but at a deeper level which makes it stronger and more powerful.

Be first with eye contact. Look the other person straight in the eye.

It often happens that some of us will not make eye contact and make the initiative thinking that if the other person was interested they would have looked at us. and we wait for them to approach. Remember that they could be thinking the same thing, but more importantly, you are the one armed with this body language synchronizing knowledge and you are the one that will get what you want. So, you are in charge and should make the first move.

Beam a smile. Again, you are in charge, so smile at them. I personally like imagining that I am smiling at their soul rather than at the person's face. I've noticed this creates such a more personal, genuine, and caring smile that the other person is pleasantly surprised and puts down all their guards. Try it! with strangers in a mall or any public place like elevators. Smile at their soul with a beaming and genuine smile.

Be the first to identify yourself with a pleasant, “Hi! I’m Susan (or John).”

Lean subtly toward the other person to show your interest and openness, and begin to synchronize.

Pay close attention and try to pick up on the other person’s feelings and mood. Identify with them by synchronizing your own movements, breathing patterns and expressions.

Use your voice to reflect back the mood conveyed by their voice. Don’t copy them clumsily or in a haste, but notice their posture, gestures, head and body movements and facial expressions and mirror them. BE IN SYNC!

Particularly important: Mirror the voice tone, volume, speed and pitch.
