Categories of Electronic Commerce

  • The five general electronic commerce categories:

1) Business-to-Consumer (B2C) – Businesses selling products or services to consumers on the Web.

2) Business-to-Business (B2B) – Transactions conducted between businesses on the Web.

3) Transactions and business process – companies, governments, and other organizations use Internet technologies to support selling and purchasing activities. Transaction – exchange of value, a purchase, a sale, or conversion of raw materials into a finished product. Business process – group of logical, related, and sequential activities and transactions in which businesses engage. Examples?

4) Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C) – individuals who buy and sell items among themselves. Note: C2C transactions are also part of B2C.

5) Business-to-Government (B2G) – Businesses sell goods or services to governments and government agencies. Note: B2G transactions are also part of B2C.
